Al,

The usual stylus for 78s is 3 mil, Shure made them. I cant remember the
exact shure cartridge that corresponds to the Realistic 3X, that was a relabeled
Shure. Also , a flipover cartridge, is a ceramic, which I would not recomend
for any transcription. (due to its poor frequency response). The best place to
get replacment styli is from Ed saunders, http://www.ewsaunders.com/ his
prices are the best, and he doesnt make mistakes on which stylus fits which
cartridge. He also has some of his own high quality styli for Shure cartridges,
including one which is much improved for playing 78s. .3 mil standard .4 mil for
older and worn 78s. If anybody is going to have that stylus , he is the one.
RS stopped selling those replacments several years ago.. My personal prefernce
for 78s is a shure SC35C body with either the shure N78 3 mil stylus, or Ed's
4 mil. I believe Shure also sells that cartridge as an M78, equipped with a 78
stylus. hope that helps

                              Darren
