Re the NYPL you will find a great deal of material I am certain,
however, you may want to call them to find out exactly what material
they have. Access is free but some historical material needs prior
arrangement. Also, there are now various speciality branches in
Manhattan separate from the main building on 5th Ave. and one of them,
I think, is technology oriiented so, again, do some diligence with them
to find out. I will be there today, actually, as their Declaration of
Indpendence exhibit is up and as an aside, that one contains original
copies of the Declaration which Jefferson wrote in his own hand - many
of which include margin notes critical of the redactions the Congress
made on the official document. Very interesting to see what he thought
about his friends in Congress and their ideas, etc. (for anyone
interested that exibit closes next week - they do it yearly around 4th
of July.)
Re inexpensive hotels in Manhattan -- one word: IMPOSSIBLE. What with
the value of the dollar Manhattan is overrun with tourists. It will be
difficult to find a room there at all, let alone anything under 250 and
that will be dirt cheap. Most rooms are north of 350. I'd recommend
you find places in New Jersey - specially Ft.Lee (right over the GW
Bridge) or Englewood - a bit down the road on Rt 4. There are Marriott
Courtyards and such there around 159 - 200, maybe less on weekends.

BY THE WAY - do you know about the Museum of Radio and Electronics near
Baltimore - adjacent to the BWI Airport? That place has an excellent
old radio library.

Ever been to the New York Public Library to research old radio topics?
Folks,
Sometime starting in September or October, I will have to work 3 to 5
weeks in Baltimore. My usual routine has me flying home for the weekend
but I’ve been thinking that this might be my first opportunity to spend
some time going through microfilm at the NY Public Library. (I failed
to get microfilm through inter-library loan.)
I presume that access is available on the weekends.
If I take Amtrack from Balto, what kind of connections would I have to
make to get to the main library microfilm repository?
Any tips on getting there would be appreciated. Also inexpensive hotels
to stay on a Friday or Saturday nite.
Thanks,
Robert
