Quite a few years ago I got a lead on a AK metal case chairside (called
the "stove") in an upper 5th Ave.east side apartment. I wanted one and
was in the city anyway so followed up on the lead. Elderly lady, grew
up in the apartment and continued to live there after her family passed
away. Now going to assisted living place so getting rid of stuff.
Really cobbled up inside but I was there so I took it (had to use the
service elevator and the back alley service entrance, coudn't drag that
radio through the hoity-toity entrance). When I got home it really was
cobbled, originally a DC set that some shop klugged into an AC set
probably during WWII when you could not buy a set. All I got out of it
was a half way decent case that now has a correct chassis in it.
