NJARC'ers and SCARA Members,
John Kakstys is a good friend of mine, and a friend to many
others. He's the older guy who until recent years set up at all the
local hamfests with several tables, always full of good parts and
tubes, and sometimes rigs. In the earlier years, he had quite a
business selling used ham gear and published a several-page flyer. I
was always amazed at the quantity and quality of his offerings, and
they were always fairly priced.
A couple of years ago I noticed John was still sleeping in his car
after the hamfest opened, I think it was in Virginia or Maryland. I
checked on him and he told me that he just wasn't feeling up to
setting up that day. After I was sure he was OK and just tired, I
continued around the hamfest. Later on I discovered he had set up a
couple of tables and was selling again like usual. But I noticed the
spark in his eyes just wasn't there. So it was no surprise when his
daughter contacted me a while back to tell me he was in the Veteran's home.
Now some time has passed and I receive the email below. John will be
pleased I'm sure, if you take the time to drive by and pick up some
items to help his daughter clear out the home. John would have never
allowed her to thrown this stuff away.
He's one of us, after all! We all save it until the end, then a
little longer just in case....

My father, John Kakstys W2FNT, has sold radio equipment for many
years. He is no longer able to sell equipment because he now resides
at the Veteran's Memorial Home in Menlo Park.
My mother died recently and their home will soon be sold.
We need to empty Dad's garage. There are a lot of small ham radio
items in the garage and there is a crank down, tilt over tower with antennas.
On Saturday, February 9, I will be at Dad's garage from 1 to 3 PM to
give away the remaining items. Everything will be free to anyone who
can use it.
Please forward this information to anyone that might be interested in
having any of the equipment.
Again, everything will be free. Dad and I just want it all to go to
someone who can use it.
