Allow me to add a little info on Philco xfmr's.The fish paper
(used between windings)contained sulfer that caused the lacquer
on the wires to breakdown and cause shorts between them.It didn't
cause a total melt-down,but enough to heat up the transformer. This
was common in early 30's Philcos. And you think you can't find
people throwing out old radios anymore? My inlaws in central PA.
picked up a Philco 42-380 for me that was standing next to a
dumpster! This was last week. The same folks who found a catalin
last year for me. I wish I could be there for the cleanout in N.J.
