If you want to look into the subject further, there is an External

several resistor topics.

Overlooking the hype on the Internet, carbon comps are poor performers
compared to film resistors and have been replaced by them.  Tighter
tolerance, lower noise, higher power per unit volume, etc. are the
domain of film (carbon and metal) and other more exotic resistor types.
