Another option to photo editing is Google's Picasa software. It basically catalogs all the images
on your computer and offers a very user-friendly "Photoshop lite" for editing them. It also keeps
copies of your originals, if you want, in a folder within the folder for a given set of photos. If
you have a Google/gmail account you can also upload pics to your account on the internet, where you
set the terms of access by others. That's what I did with my slideshow of photos from the Antique
Radio Club of Illinois Radiofest last summer
(http://picasaweb.google.com/alexmagoun/ARCIRadioFestAugust23242007/photo#5097981476342828866, in
case you missed it the first time).
Which reminds me, that it's wonderful having lots of photos or video from past meetings, swap meets,
open houses, etc., but they won't be very useful 10, 25, 100 years from now if Owen, Marty, et al.
don't include captions: who, when, where, what, etc. If you've ever looked at family photos from
two generations ago or flea market photos of people from the 19th century, you know what I mean.
Permanent access is one of the big differences between an archives and a closet, and it's one reason
why archival processing is so time-intensive.
best,
Alex
