Thanks for all the help with this month's Broadcaster - great articles
by Al Klase and Dave Sica, help with the Clinic article by Phil Vourtsis, John
Ruccolo, etc. and photo input for the "free stuff" layout. I take a little
pride in the total product...from beginning to end...but this month's hardcopy
was somewhat lacking. Reason was that I had to print the pdf version where the
photos don't come out as crisp and clear as that from the Publisher version.
The reason for being forced to use the pdf version was that the
Publisher version was huge (over 220 Meg) and it overloaded the Kinko server. The
reason that the file was so huge was that the photos I used from my "cub"
reporters were high resolution, 8 x 12 behemoths. May I make the following
suggestion:
Although we have many beautiful people in our club, I have no
expectations of printing to paper the majority of photos I take for club events. They
won't wind up on my dresser or line the stairwell to the second floor of my
house. That's why I use the low resolution, 5 x 6 setting on my camera...jpeg
size winds up at about a couple of hundred K. I was once admonished for
suggesting to people that I dictate photo size, especially since "it was a huge
endeavor to set on a digital camera." However, last time I tried it (on the
cheapest camera I could find), it took me about 15 seconds in the camera's menu to
set the picture size and resolution.
So to all my friends who have or intend to help me with the Broadcaster
in the future, could you please try to limit photo size and resolution when
taking photos of club events. In the long run, it also cuts down on the time it
takes to actually produce the Broadcaster. Each time I save the file when I
create and add articles and photos, on a file this large, it takes a couple of
extra minutes and I can't move betwen pages as fast as I would like to.
Actually, there is a resolution...Photo Shop can reduce file size. But
this is time consuming for me and I don't want to spend the club's money on
the program. If you care to do this BEFORE YOU SEND ME THE PHOTO, this would
also be appreciated.
Again, this is just a suggestion from your friendly Broadcaster editor
and I don't want to force anyone to do anything they would prefer not to do.
But please consider it in the spirit of producing the best product possible.
