Isaac Blonder, 1916-2008
It was with a great feeling of loss that I read in this morning's
newspaper that longtime NJARC member, television pioneer, all-around
visionary and inveterate jokester Isaac Blonder has died.
Ike was an engineer, an Army veteran and an entrepreneur. He was one of
the founders of Blonder Tongue laboratories and a pioneer in the cable TV
industry. Later in life, he experimented with things as diverse as 3D
television and using applied science to hunt for the Loch Ness monster.
He was a member of the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame and held 39
patents.
His obituary, including a condensed biography, can be read at
http://www.blonder.com/
An oral history interview can be seen at http://tinyurl.com/5bcfxj
Although it's been a number of years since we've seen Ike at a club
meeting, I felt awfully priviliged to have known him. I'll always
remember his stories and his unique ability to keep us laughing while
discussing even the most technical subject!
