There are several other episodes with ham radio in them.

When Bart discovers a comet and joins the nerds, Martin introduces himself by saying, "my specialty is ham radio."

Homer escapes to the South Pacific as a missionary, and talks home on a ham radio(on 15 meters, read from the dial).

In my favorite episode, Bart goes to France as an exchange student.  An Albanian exchange student who is staying with the Simpsons sends the plans to the nuclear plant home with a ham radio in Bart's treehouse.
