The Styli were user replacable. When the unit is at rest, there is a "hatch" 
in the top of the unit , which you unclip, and you should see a metal door, 
which holds the stylus in place. It is actually a "stylus assembly" which is 
lifted straight out. Im not sure the expected life of the stylus, but Ive changed 
them when the picture becomes degraded, or when the unit continues to skip.
