Just  to drive you crazy this month's, Monitoring Times has an article in
it's  Radio Restorations - Power Supplies for the BC-348. It includes plans
for a  solid state dynamotor.

Hi  John-
I was shooting for 228VDC, after rectification, filter
& 2  electrolytics, it was 350VDC. Under load, it is
190VDC or so. Just powering  up the radio brought it
down there.
