Hello group,

I am new to antique radios but not new to electronics. I have a little
experience with tubes and so I have more than a little to learn. I joined
your club and I am looking forward to having some radio fun.

I recently purchased an antique radio for a song and a dance. But my first
radio is an unusual one. I do have a few friends who have already tried to
help me out but no one seems to know who the manufacturer of the radio I
have.

So the facts; it is a Beverly Super-heterodyne, model 2088, console, lowboy.
Judging from the patent numbers it cannot be any younger than 1932. So it
may be a 1933 or 1934. I need schematics but Rider doesn't have them, at
least that is what I am told. I have heard a number of manufacturers
mentioned among which are: Warwick, Well Garner, Zenith, Cadillac
Manufacturers Co.

The radio itself is in fairly good shape. The good news is a amplifier tube
was completely dead and that probably assured that anyone attempting to turn
it on before I got it would not have had any reason to keep it on and that
may have saved it from any possible damage. It had a weak rectifier tube and
I am going through the caps one-by-one. My problem is without a schematic I
cannot be sure about all of the caps values as some have wax or something or
other on them. One speaker had a good rip but in general nothing that cannot
be repaired. Oh the tube collection is one U-280, three 46, three 56, and
three 58's.

The wires are bad but that can be replaced so I am a little bit off from
powering the baby up. So if anyone has any information, I sure would be
appreciative. My wife is absolutely in love with this radio but I have told
here "Beverly" is my new girlfriend!
