[NJARC] BC-610

John,
        I have both a BC-610 and a T-368-E in my basement shack. There's
plenty of room for them in most basements.

There are some big differences between them though. The T-368 puts out a bit
more power (500W+ on 'fone vs 315W+ from a BC-610)), has bandswitching on
the exciter and PA, is a lot more civilized to operate, easier to service
with it's three roll out drawers, has a pi-net output, and in general is a
much more modern transmitter.

The "Beastly 610" can be nasty, will talk back to you through it's relays
and/or modulation transformer, is subject to arc over and rectifier
flashing, isn't band switching (hence the different coils for every band)
has those drifty-wobbly tuning units that take forever to stabilize, has an
inherint 60 and 120 cycle low level AC hum while you modulate (reminiscent
of Radio Moscow in the early 1960's). the list just goes on and on.

Overall, I still prefer a BC-610 to it's much more civilized successor, the
T-368. There's something about the orange glow of the tantalum be-plated
250TH in the final, the "red-in-the-face 100TH's in the modulator when you
push 'em hard enough, and the feeling behind a TRIODE link coupled high
powered AM rig that the T-3 can't match. Just my preference. The BC-610 is a
real "OldBuzzardly" Veteran!

Either transmitter is a great piece to have in one's "shack"!

Best Regards,
                     Joe Cro N3IBX
