Hi,
I was reading the RCA reprint book on "Radio at Ultra-High Frequencies,
Volume I 1930-1939)" to get a feel for the state of the art before WWII.
There is an article by B. J. Thompson and G.M. Rose(he's a nuvistor guy,
right?) reprinted from Proc. IRE Dec. 1933 that shows what appears to be
the prototypes of the acorn tube line.
B.J. Thompson was an exec by the time of the war(if I recall correctly) yet
put his life on the line to field test some RADAR or other high tech gear
in Europe. He died when his plane was shot down.
