I just wanted to say Hi to the list. My name is Frank Graziano, I am 25
years old and I live in Wall, NJ. I was lucky enough to inherit a
vintage Fisher console stereo system. I have never had a solid state
electronic before and I look forward to learning more about the
technology and how to get it up and running.

The system contained the following components:

Fisher 30-A Amplifier

Fisher 610-ST Tuner

Garrard Turntable Model 210

I am not sure the years on these components but they all seem to point
to the late 50's.

So far I was able to clean everything up and hook it all back together.
Both fuses were fine. Upon first firing her up everything seemed to be
in order. I was able to get pretty crisp response from the FM tuner, the
speakers sounded good. I was able to successfully play a record as well,
sounded very good. After about 10 minutes it started to hum and smell
like it was burning so I shut it down immediately. From the small bit of
knowledge I have gained it would seem that the Electrolytic Capacitors
in the tuner/receiver are bad or going bad. I also don't know much about
tubes, is there a way to test them without a tube tester (with a
multi-meter perhaps?).

Thanks in advance,

-Frank
