OK guys, here's the challange. Many of you know about the "Shotgun" highly directional microphone in the NBHF museum. Next to the Washington Receiver, it's our most significant artifact. Well, in rooting through some NBHF stuff we found a framed artical on this item. Unfortunately it is very badly water damaged so I took it out of the frame to see if I could identify the source.
It was published in a Bell Telephone System Technical Publication, monograph B-1131, undated. However, inside is indicated that it was presented before the Acoustical Society of America, Cambridge, MA November 1938 and published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America in January 1939. The monograph is 25 pages and describes this device and how it was developed.
So - - we need to hunt down one of these original publications so we can improve the signage of this item and have its history available. I'm loath to copy this brochure as many of its pages are stuck together and I need to scrub my hands after handling it.
Ray
