Marty,Everyone,
Just for grins and giggles, I propose this:
Even though the net itself will be functioned around an Amateur Radio
activity, not everyone in the NJARC has or plans to obtain an Amateur
license, nor may not even be particularly interested in Amateur Radio.
I would say though, that we have a whole lot of people who are SWL's and
would listen it to a net, if for no other reason, it would give them a good
excuse to use their Philco multiband console, Grundig portable, etc etc, and
they would know the club members (Amateurs) who are on the radio at a given
time from association with the meetings.
What Say we have a "point person" who members would come up to at meetings,
and make a request that we bring up his topic on a net held on Amateur
Radio? Not a swap shop kind of thing, but for instance: "I have a Philco
37-116 console that has distorted audio. Any ideas as to what the problem
could be?" or 'What would I use to refinish the cabinet on my GE model A87
tombstone?" , etc etc.
If someone has a knowledge of the persons problem or question, those on the
'net could talk about it. The person who posed the question (hopefully)
would be listening in; and receive some insight into his problem.
Am I being too lofty here with my expectations? Do you think this idea, or
one like it would be feasable?
Step up to the plate and let your thoughts be known. The "madness to my
method" is to have everyone as an active participant, either on or off the
radio. Who knows, it may even stimulate interest in Amateur Radio enough for
one to obtain his/her licence - Did I say that?
Mod-U-Later,
Joe Cro N3IBX
