Ray,
I am forgetting who was on some of the emails flying back and forth so I am
bouncing the idea of actually collecting some machines and repairing them
back to the whole group with apologies to all. This would allow us to have
AP and UPS tickers in the newsroom at the radio station (we already have the
transmitter) and typical line printers on the earliest of the computers on
display.
The 15 was the preferred newsroom printer over the "new" 19 in the 1960's
for reliability reasons and my favorite for its great looks (clunky and
solid); 33's were what NASA used. I would think we could use both at InfoAge
and should see about pickups and a clean lube and repair clinic for all
equipment and all comers. I have a Dirt Mall (flea market) find which I had
been ignoring since summer which is a set of military teletype test sets. I
guess it is time to try to fire them up and see if I get smoke. Possibly Al
can help me with this?
The sets are AN/UGM-1; SG799 and SG800 which seem to generate test signals
a selectable baud rates and loop currents (etc. etc) any one know any thing
about them, have a book??
The vintage computer guys will have to find out how the hardware interface
worked for the specific computers on hand but in the good old days tty and
stty (for ex UNIX root folks) were often actual teletype machines. The
reason to get involved with this madness is that these are fairly complex
machines (since it is much harder to do this mechanically that with
electronics) and it should be a lot of fun.
Those of you who have leads for equipment can contact me for Infoage
donation sheets. Unless items are of super interest the guidelines for
general contributions to InfoAge are that we cannot guarantee that the
equipment will be displayed and that the museum retains the right to dispose
of any donations at its discretion.

Interesting comments on teletype, I have a type 15 complete setup and
scads of manuals but guess what you really want is the type 33. Also have
access to two more type 15 setups that are available to InfoAge, all they
need is to be picked up. Make a 1940's WWII press room! But for now better
take Aaron up on his offer, most 33's probably ended up on the scrap heap by
now. Interesting to use 15's with computers in the 70's.
