I understand these guys issues and after 30 plus years they deserve a rest.  
However, they should have considered seeking a succession plan from people in  
advance and not assume no one can do it better.  Frankly that's a bit  
arrogant and based on similar situations I have seen personally with local  radios 
clubs very myopic.
 
No doubt even smaller events require a lot more work than people think  but 
part of the work in any club should be to manage leadership change and not  
just let something die when you get tired.  I'd go as far as saying these  people 
fulfill their own prophesies but glomming onto to control so jealously so  
long fearful of change from people who "just don't know as much as us" ... Like  
another organization we know in upstate NY - and it ain't in Cooperstown.!
