Hi Bill,

The following is derived from information in "The Hallicrafters Story"
by Max De Hensler plus my interpretation of the info in Riders via
NostalgiaAir.

The SX-12 is a "commercial" version of the SX-11 1937 Super Sky Rider.
Tube lineup and chassis layout are virtually identical. Both have 5
bands, but the SX-12 deletes the two highest frequency bands of the
SX-11 and adds 110KC to 250 KC and 250-610 KC. This allows coverage of
the long-wave maritime and aircraft frequencies. In order to provide
continuous coverage in the very important 400-500+ KC range, the IF
frequency has been moved to 1600 KC rather than 465 KC.

The set was introduced in September 1936 and cost $114.50 versus $99.50
for the SX-11. Both radio could be ordered without the crystal filter in
the IF for $10 less, and were know as S-11 and S-12 in this configuration.

Yes, most collectors want the SX-11 even though the 12 is probably much
more rare.
