Hi Joe,
Please let me amend my statement, out of respect to Al
Klase:
Gimme an *AR-88* or an SX-28 or an NC-200 any day!
Somebody told me something years ago, and I've never
forgotten it: "There are two kinds or radio
collectors: people who see radios from the inside out,
and people who see radios from the outside in."
While that's not strictly true, of course, I think
it's largely true. Some people just like cute cabinets
and styling, and couldn't care less about the
technical sophistication (or lack thereof) of the
radio. That's fine -- to each his/her own -- but FORTY
KILOBUCKS for a deco "skyscraper" radio??? Wow!
That's just as crazy as $65K for that Zenith
Stratosphere. For us "normal" folks, *no* radio is
worth that kinda money. I guess all it takes are two
very wealthy collectors who want the same things at
these auctions....
Regards,
John
