A prime example of the change, a decade earlier, was Zworykin's camera tube group at RCA in 1930.  I'm shooting from the hip because I'm at work and I don't have my books in front of me, but his group of about 10 included at least three PhDs, a bunch of recent college grads, and two glass blowers.
