Everyone,
Last Saturday's repair clinic was another success. There was a flurry
of last minute
calls for appointments starting 7am the morning of the clinic. This was
because of an
announcement in the Star Ledger that day about the clinic. Dispite this
last minute crunch,
we were able to handle everyone who showed up for the event. By the end
of the day we received
2 donations and one new membership to the club. One of the more
interesting radios brought
in was a Lowell Best repwood table model in excellent physical
condition. There will be pictures
in the next newsletter.
Special thanks to the 'experts' who spent most of their day helping
others fix old radios.
I hope I don't miss anyone here;

Alex had another event going on in the
afternoon, the 40th anniversary of the development of the liquid crystal
display (LCD), which
occurred at the RCA Laboratories during the 1960s. Sal and I stayed for
some of the festivities
and talks. Did you know the first LCD had to be maintained at a
temperature of 120 degrees F
in order to remain in a liquid state? I guess if you put a pieces of
asbestos on the back of your
digital watch, it would have been marketable! It took two more years to
get it working at room
temperature.
