Marv,

I myself didn't see the possibility of anyone being offended by John's
comment, but that just goes to show you that we all see things
differently.

As usual, I sit firmly on the fence:

On the one hand, I was at a Cinco de Mayo event on Friday, and the
Mariachi band poked great fun at everything. John's awful joke would have
been in very good company there!

Yet on the other hand, I agree that potentially offensive or "off topic"
comments might not be the most appropriate content on the reflector. I
don't feel that this particular example was in any way offensive. If we
eliminate all joking around, we'll end up being a pretty dour bunch of
radio collectors. Heck, if we eliminate all joking around, we might end
up forgetting what John's voice sounds like!

Perhaps we should just flog John with a length of heat-shrink tubing,
made of course in Mexico (diameter to be determined by a majority vote of
the membership) and move on.

And John, I had intended to reply earlier about this: that story was a
major shaggy-dog groaner, even for YOU!

P.S. Marv, the day is actually not equivalent to our Independence day but
you're in good company, most people seem to believe that. That is,
however, not a serious enough transgression for you to qualify for the
heat-shrink punishment. :-)
