One problem with not keeping original, single copies of magazines is the ads. 
 I know of two major magazine collectors with extensive libraries (one being 
Alan Douglas) who mixed bound library copies with their individual copies.  
When research time came around, without the ads (which are eliminated from bound 
copies and on-line collections) the bound volumes were worthless.  Since that 
time, both have unloaded all their bound library copies for individual 
copies.

Just something to consider.
