Allow me to suggest that keeping dupes of old, unindexed magazines is
not a good idea. Even if you fear damage to one set and and can store a
second set in another climate-controlled environment to inhibit paper
disintegration, no professional library does this. InfoAge's Library
committee should first resolve to develop, store, and organize a
complete second set for reasons that are hard to imagine if the magazine
is still in operation and could, if it hasn't already, generate a CD/DVD
set of back issues.
Here is where you need to develop a collection policy before the
facility turns into the attic for people to drop off their collections.
Being able to decline offers politely within the context of a collection
development policy shows that you know what you want and what you want
to do with it. It may lead to some hurt feelings, but it will also lead
to more respect for your mission.
