[NJARC] Transformer testing

I would like to test an old power transformer.  I can test for continuity, shorts and voltage output using a VOM but I would like to make some tests under load.  I was thinking of hooking up 6 V light bulbs to the 6 and 5 V windings and 4 to 5 110 V candleabra 7 1/5 watt (eg. night lights) in series for the hi voltage winding.  Then bring up the voltage on the primary to about half level with a rheostat.   Does that seem like a plan?  Any other suggestions?Nick Senker
