I had always believed BNC connectors, to be "British Naval Connectors"
however upon learning of the TNC connector so prevelant in the cellular industry, I
would have to think the B stands for Bayonet, whereas TNCs are nearly a copy
of a BNC save for the THREADED outer shell.
Another intersting one I have heard many times, is the "amphenol" connector.
Amphenol simply being the manufacturer, I have heard people use this term many
times to refer to the high impeadance mic connector, as well as the amphenol
80 and 90 series, so commonly seen on vintage microphones, and communications
gear.
The original XL connectors were nearly 1" round, and were shortly replaced
with the smaller XLs that most of us are familliar with.
Connectors are quite fascinating, and it would be interesting to do a
presentation on the history of them. However, im not certain it would have broad
appeal....
