That's a pretty funny and nicely done up fraud.
About 4 years ago I bought a floor standing version of this type of machine
with dual horns at an antique center in Tennessee. I didn't really buy it
cause it was valuable, but just because it looked so wierd, I just had to
have it.
These are cleverly done new machines made in India which include original
wind up motors emoved from Grammophone Company portables made in England in
the 1930's and 40's. For awhile they were being marketed as "new old stock
from a recently re-discovered warehouse in India" and some were sold as such
thru the Signal catalogue. When the fraud was exposed, Signals was forced
to offer to buy back every unit they sold.
These things actually play pretty well, as long as the springs that drive
the motors aren't stretched, and they certainly look goofy ennough to almost
be passable!
