[NJARC] Video tape Reel to Reel

Joe,

Do you know what type of tape you have? There were a surprising number of
types of reel-to-reel video machines, I don't recall exactly how many but
it was a lot more than I would have ever guessed; several dozen at least.
That having been said, by far the most common "old" machine was the 1/2"
EIAJ format, used in schools, businesses and even some TV studios from
the late sixties into the late seventies. Probably the best source for
info is http://www.labguysworld.com/. I can bring a machine to one of our
meetings and we can give it a shot, but be warned that many if not most
tapes of that vintage are difficult-to-impossible to play any more. For
the tough cases (and most are tough cases any more) there are a few
specialized services which can make a more or less successful transfer,
for a price, from all but the most deteriorated tape.
