Scott,
Use your scope or frequency counter or another receiver to WATCH what
the local oscillator does when you tune across the band. Otherwise
you're just blunderring around in the dark. Just put the scope probe
near the oscillator coil. If the scope has a calibrated sweep you can
measure the period of the waves form and calculate the frequency. F=1/P.
