John R. speaks the truth.
I used a TRS-80 in Fall 89 in a computer class the senior year of high school. I think maybe I was already using one at home(possibly purchased by the Sarnoff lab for "evaluation" purposes) to calculate OSCAR satellite orbits, among other things.
We were fortunate to have Win Pike, a distinguished RCA engineer, working at the Princeton Radio Shack until a few years ago. He was the exception to "You've got questions, we've got blank stares".
I think I have bought little other than RCA phono plugs and PL-259s, and the occasional rectifier and switching diode, during the past 10 years, so I won't really miss them.
