Here's a note I got on the unit:
I remember opening up oldie pots and finding a little
roller contact moving across a resistance card. Maybe
the resistance coating on yours has gotten oxidized or
otherwise coated with schmutz. Might be able to
treat it with graphite.
The black wax thing may be a series capacitor, in
which case an R-C shunting network might be used from
grid to ground as a tone control. Any chance of another
pot being present as the volume control, typically con-
nected to the antenna and the cathode of the first RF stage?
(I. e., antenna goes to one end of the resistance element,
wiper goes to ground, cathode goes to other end of
the resistance element., so as you raise the volume
you un-shunt the antenna and reduce the bias on the
RF stage.)
Also...THANK YOU! Michael for the drawing...just what the doctor needs...
Put the audio gen to the unit...my audio section seems to be working...1/2
way there..
R,
Steve
