As some of you know, I am working on an estate that is the largest
radio-related collection that I have ever seen. Not a lot of boatanchors, in
fact very few. But tubes? My lord, AES would be proud. I'm estimating that
there are over 20,000 tubes in the house. Maybe 85% of them are boxed and
maybe 25% of those are NOS. The guy was not an organized person and the
tubes are only vaguely sorted by size and filament voltage--sometimes. My
boys and I have spent literally days just sorting and trying to get all the
boxes to be full and face-up. You work for 3 hours and can't really tell
that you've done anything. Garage, basement and most of two bedrooms--all
full. Scattered among them are parts of every description and all the
radio-related detritus that you can imagine in one sitting.

Anyway, all the tubes, a lot of the books (of which there's at least 1,000),
the BC radios, and some test gear will be auctioned by Richard Estes on May
6th at the Beaver Valley Holiday Inn as part of the Pittsburgh Antique Radio
Society annual meet and auction. Prices should be very reasonable. The tubes
haven't been cherry-picked. I haven't taken one, nor has anyone else that I
know of. So it should be a good sale.

Pass the word.
