[NJARC] What is a "Radio?"

If you people have had enough of my yammering on this, please tell me to
shut up already ;-) The reality is that it's easy to talk about this,
but if it comes down to actually making this idea work, I'll probably
continue to be a little scarce, so take my comments with however many
grains of salt you may.

But...

I am *absolutely charmed* by the idea of "The New Jersey Antique RADIO
Club" running a legitimate BCB transmitting station. Many of our members
are hams and transmit all the time. I had a ham license myself (seems
like a hundred years ago now, and after it expired, I converted my novice
CW xmtr to a "pirate" BCB station as a teenager. Didn't last very long
before the modulation transformer melted and I was out of "business",
which was in hindsight probably a very fortunate turn of events for me! )

Although there is significant interest in communications receivers and a
vigorous vintage transmitters niche within the club, it's probably fair
to say that most of our collective collecting focus is on broadcast
receivers. With that in mind, "playing on the other side of the fence"
and running a vintage AM station seems to me like it would fit in nicely
with our charter, and hopefully with the interests of an appreciable
portion of our membership.

While I AM seriously concerned about the logistics of actually making
such a pipe dream a reality, opening the operation up to the community
may be a great way to get the necessary man-hours of interested
participants to make it viable. But even if it's a big, big stretch, it's
an absolutely tantalizing idea. Let's keep brainstorming. I hope we can
do it. I hope it's technically and legally feasible and I hope we can
figure out a way to manage the ongoing work that would be required. It
might be something that isn't doable, but if we can, wow!

(I think I'm through yammering now, for a while.)
