Jim,
      I'm with both you and Bob. To me, the characteristic warmth of a long 
distance AM station played through a big 1930's tube console, or like radio 
has an ambience to it that can't be matched. I like the sound of the phase 
distortion going in and out along with the signal. The sound of the 
orchestra, singer, or whatever going into a slight fade and then coming back 
with strong clarity and resonance. It's resilience is like audio kinetic 
energy that you can experience, nature doing it's wonderful magic to a 
stations' signal, unfolding through your radio speaker and coming alive into 
your room.
