Two good points that I meant to mention but forgot, thanks Dave.  We 
really need a list of repair professionals to hand out.  So many people 
ask me and I don't have a list ready.  Another reason to have a 
disclaimer to hand to the public re "it's an old radio, does not meet 
current safety standards".  I cover this in all my lectures.  Was in a 
house once where the person had a Philco cathedral that he had clumsily 
repaired, bragged about his young grandchildren who often visited him 
and here was this open back radio plugged in sitting on a radiator.
