Subject: CHRS Second Chance
CHRS / KRE Report: Our work day at KRE last Saturday was quite
productive considering the volunteer crew consisted of Rich McCall &
myself. Rich carpeted the cabinet top & ledges around the windows and
removed unused wiring in the Dillberg Shop. Thank you to Rich's wife
Lea for securing the carpet & carpet pads for the bench tops for
CHRS. I rearranged a lot of our test equipment and made more room for
our collection in protected storage. Also, you will now find CHRS
literature available in the lobby.
May I remind you what a special situation you are connected
with. To the best of our knowledge CHRS is the only vintage radio
group anywhere that has a historic radio station as it's
headquarters. It's easy to forget this, but it's very unique and CHRS
is very fortunate. Most other radio groups around the country are
losing members, but CHRS is thriving. Why? Because we have KRE. We
have dreams. We have vision. We have a core of volunteers &
supporters who are making our vision a reality.
But, with 2 volunteers on a scheduled work day, it's a bit
discouraging. Rich & I will be back at KRE this Saturday to continue
the work. If you would like to join us please do. Your help will be
most appreciated. There are a lot of Saturdays this month so...
It's the fourth Saturday...
And a second chance...
To help CHRS at KRE...
This Saturday, October 22nd...
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED at 9 AM - To help with the continuing
restoration & maintenance at the historic KRE building, 601 Ashby
Ave. in Berkeley. We would like to work on clearing the parking lot
in preparation for our November meet. And on the inside we will
continue the carpet project & do some more rearranging to make room
for the additional 50+ items we will be receiving shortly from
History San Jose. We would like to restore the floors in the two
adjoining rooms of our shop. This is in preparation for building the
Dillberg repair shop & repair teaching facility. We hope to have the
shop up & running before the end of the year. As soon as it is ready,
we will start classes in radio theory, troubleshooting, repair &
restoration. Bring a lunch Saturday & enjoy our beautiful park.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE... CHRS will be picking up 3 work benches
this Friday donated by Dolby Labs! Thank you to Vice President Scott
Robinson for tracking these down & getting them donated to CHRS. And,
Larry Boysen donated a pair of perfectly restored and working Sparta
3 speed broadcast turntables. Thanks Larry! Also Will Rayment donated
a very fancy Sony short wave receiver. Solid sate but very nice. And
very heavy. Thank you Will!
Volunteering for CHRS always leaves us with a good feeling at
the end of the day. Come see the great work your fellow volunteers
have done to this historic building. Remember, only you can make this
place for radio happen by volunteering time & donating to our funds.
CHRS is a registered educational non profit with 501(c)3 status &
your contributions are tax deductible.
