I found a schematic for a Royal 700L in Sam's and could bring it to the 
meeting.  Looks like a leather cased portable, not the pocket variety.

The transistors are all npn with the exception of one of the output 
driver transistors which is pnp.  I had an oscillator transistor go out 
in my Sansui stereo.  I went to radio shack and bought their cheap rf 
transistor, installed it and the stereo works fine with a minor alignment.
