One of my Ham desires is to build and operate a 1930's-like station.
I picked up a few 1930 QST magazines.
Back then, they would have an article featuring a ham station in detail.
The issue of July 1930 featured VE2CA.
It provides schematics for his - get this - Living Room rig.
He has single UX852 for 40 meters and can switch to his single UX852 20
meter rig using a knife switch.
"The tank inductance is made of 5/16-inch copper tubing wound to an outside
diameter of 4 inches, and is bolted directly on the tuning condenser. This
coil and the antenna coupling coil are mounted on glass rods, and the coupling
is varied by sliding the antenna coil along the rods."
Interestingly, he uses 2 x 866's for juice.
Also shown is his rcvr using 2x222's and 2x201A's.
It mentions that in addition to his WAC, he worked 36 different countries
"including WFA, Byrd's Antarctic base."
Soooo...I've made my first step...I have the schematic.
Can even alligator clip in the juice from my 866's if necessary.
Got to tell the Mrs she'd got to move some Living Room furniture..or heck,
I'll just make remove some of the glass, crystal etc and build it into the
Hutch!
Steve.
Steve,
Absolutely terrific! I took a look at the article (QST 7/1930,pg.
33) and really like the layout of the station and components, etc. We'll talk
more about it in person the next time I see you. Once you see one of those
"sidearm" tubes in action you'll be hooked!
Very Best Regards,
Joe Cro N3IBX
