[NJARC] Military Radio(s) Used In B-24?

Rich,
I'm no historian, but I'll give a try at answering your questions. To
my knowledge, the B-17,B-24, and B-25 bombers all used BC-375 transmitters
made by General Electric. I have a BC-375-E in my hamshack, and there are no
(AN, etc) designators on it.

The AN/ART-13 autotune transmitter came out in 1943/44 and were designated
to be installed in the B-29 flying fortress, among other planes. When the
B-29 was first introduced it was fitted with a BC-375-E, and later
retrofitted to an ART-13 when put into service. The (Collins designed)
ART-13 was also used in other applications, like the PBY, and had a Naval
designation of "ATC" when used in their branch of the service.

I'd like to take an educated guess, that a 1944 B-25 may have an ART-13 on
board as the transmitter. If not, it would probably be a BC-375-E. Both
transmitters had transmit capability around 500KC, and from 2 through 18
MHZ. The primary difference is the BC-375 used plug in tuning units, and the
ART-13 was an autotune transmitter. The receiver used with both transmitters
would be the venerable BC-348.

Please don't take what I stated as verbatim. I'm only going from the
knowledge of having both the BC-375 and ART-13 transmitters in my
"hamshack".
                                                               Mod-U-Later,
