Fred, (and all of NJARC),
I'd like to clarify what happened at TCF.
I and also Erik Wendt (of TCF) were surprised at just
how tight the assigned room was. Fred, you must have
noticed that we in the MARCH club were packed in that
room quite closely. We did not waste or hog any
space.
I was very happy to meet you in person, and had no
idea at all that you were angry at us. I didn't mean
to be rude, but if I was, please accept this as my
public apology. You ask, "Who is this guy to refuse
another group access to their assigned space?" -- I
don't recall exactly what I told you, except to point
out that the room was quite literally full. I wasn't
"rufusing" you of anything, just observing that there
was, indeed, a serious space problem. Where in the
room could your group have fit?
Even though I think TCF's Erik Wendt did a fine job, I
do think TCF in general could have made much better
use of their space. A glaring example: directly next
to the MARCH space was an equal-sized room for a LAN
party. But at no point during the whole weekend were
there more than two people there! Not only that, but
the LAN room had a very serious "spider"-style power
box, while we had to beg for every amp for our PDP-8
setup. I'm not blaming Erik for this -- he and the
college's electricians worked hard and swiftly to help
us -- but I think some people really messed up.
My group was and remains very excited about working
with InfoAge and the Grabbe collection. Again, Fred,
I apologize for not fully appreciating your
predicament on Saturday. I wish your club had arrived
earlier in the day (we in MARCH began setting up at 7
in the morning), so we could have figured out how to
share.
(PS -- We did have some extra space on Sunday, because
we had 10 exhibitors Saturday and only 8 on Sunday.
We would have been happy to share that if you'd
asked.)
