The situation at Infoage, Camp Evans is looking up. Apparently the
Pentagon was surprised at the decay at Camp Evans and will help with its
restoration. After sitting through the meeting and "walk around" a few
weeks ago, it became apparent that more of the blame for the decay rests
with Fort Monmouth individuals than with anyone else since they are
responsible for the upkeep and repair and it is clear that they either
did not have the funds or it's a matter of "out of site, out of mind".
Anyway, as of this writing, sewers are connected up to the Marconi hotel
and the connections to the cottages are being searched out. This should
not pose a problem. The Army has committed to take out all asbestos in
the Marconi hotel and replace the heating plant. At a subsequent
meeting between the Army and the township, a priority list of buildings
to be worked on was agreed upon. The listed priorities were the hotel,
the library (L shaped building), the first H building and one other
building earmarked for the model rail group. The deed for the Diana
site plus the two cottages has been signed by the township and is
bouncing around back with the Army. For the life of me I do not know
why so much paper has to move back and forth, I can only imagine that it
is a case of the lawyers trying for more billable hours. You taxes at
work!! Fred Carl has placed dehumidifiers in one end of an H building
and has seen the mold situation reduce significantly in a few weeks. He
is working with the Army to get many more dehumidifiers in place.
Relations with the Army seem to be much more cordial of late. The RAB
meeting scheduled for this past Tuesday was canceled, don't know why or
when it will be rescheduled. Possibly waiting for the rehabilitation
cost estimates that were promised early in June. Maybe by the next club
meeting the cottages will be officially in Infoage's hands. More to
follow in a few days.
Ray
