In looking at pictures of the E2 speaker, it does not have a grille 
cloth in the front.  The cone is visible.  I verified this with the 
parts list that only lists the "cloth screen" for the holes in the rear. 
  I did see a picture of an E3 speaker with a grill cloth, but according 
to the manual, it is not correct.   (And none of mine have one either.)

The speaker cone is the "floating" type.  I have not worked with this 
style yet, but from what I can see in the service manual, the cone edge 
should not touch the housing.  It should be "equally spaced from the 
housing".  The E3 however, is a "held-edge cone".
