Gang,
Re: [NJARC] Tailgate Swap Meet

I think we need to consider the wishes of all the members. I wasn't happy
with Phil's answer at the last meeting when I brought this item up. He
indicated that we have the hamfest-meet with DVRA that had a tailgate
area. Phil doesn't tailgate, and I don't think he knows how much some of
the rest of us like to do this.

I, personally, have not attended several NJARC meets, because of the inside
only sales area. I like to tailgate. I don't like unloading the car and
dragging the equipment across a parking lot, up a ramp (or steps) and
inside, down busy aisles, to a table. That's me, but I'm not alone.

On the other hand, there are members who prefer doing it inside, and that's
fine.

Here's what I think we need:

Something "like" the place we had at Highstown, but cleaner and nicer.

1) A location with inside table space for those members who want to be
inside. And a large parking lot outside, preferably paved, with a tailgate
area for the rest of us. It should have plenty of additional parking space
for attendees.

2) It should be at or near the intersection of East-West and North-South
major highways, so we can draw collectors from adjacent states. There
should also be food and motels nearby for the travellers who need
them. (Intersections of major highways usually have motels and food nearby.)

3) We should also consider the "Shotgun" starts that are becoming popular
at other meets.

4) And most important - we need to have our swap meets listed in the
"Antique Radio Classified" Calendar sections. The last few meets only had
our paid advertising was listed, one or two issues prior to the meet. But
the ARC Calendar sections didn't list them. We must insist that ARC list
them, and we should send them in early, way early, so others can plan to
come to NJ, to our meets. Other clubs have their meets listed 6 or more
months in advance, way before they occur. We should too.
