Greetings Al and NJARC
When I was club president, I had mentioned the RCA New Brunswick
transmitter site. Had a few discussions with Marsha Simpken about it's
location about six or so years ago. Yes it is along the D&R Canal and
there is a historical marker in the road island near the McDonald's on
Easton Avenue. I assume the woods (new housing development ?) behind
McDonald's is where the factory was. I have never explored the site but
my former boss had. We worked together at Microwave Semi-conductor Corp.
It seems that the RCA site helped produce components for the proximity
fuse of WWII fame. My boss had explored the area as a kid and recovered
several of the pencil tubes. I was lucky enough to get a set of them
from him many years ago. There is also a street called Radio Court off
of Easton Avenue not far from the Landing Lane bridge IIRC. I am under
the impression that the older homes along Easton Avenue were for high
ranking RCA/Marconi employees.

The Bakelite factory still stood when I was there a few years ago on
River Road. This is on the other side of the D&R Canal near Bound Brook.
There is a tan or red big smoke stack with Bakelite written in white
brick. The factory compound is now Union Carbide but with the continuing
corporate acquisitions, who knows?

There was a Historical Society active when I lived in Bound Brook. They
will have more information and possible photos. I am sure the Bound
Brook Library will have the contact information.

Regards from Arkansas,
Jim
