Here are some tentative plans for the club display at the Cranbury
Historical museum subject to discussion at the meeting. The museum is
in the center of Cranbury at 4 Park Place West. Easiest access is from
Rt. 130, just north of Heightstown, going west on county 535 for about a
mile puts you in town, the museum is a left turn and is marked with a sign.
We have a room that is 16' x 28' and we can use three sides plus the
center. Each side has class topped tables and enclosed shelves. The
enclosed shelves are shallow, about 9" but there are deep exposed beams
that can take deeper equipment. I would think that we would do it much
like Olde Towne with 20's stuff on the left side, 30's on the center
side and 40's - 50's on the right side. There is room for consoles in
the center as well as in front of two windows and a french door. Here
are some things that I could use.
1. The glass table on the left could be used for crystal sets, tubes
and early parts. I do not have any crystal sets.
2. I could use a RA/DA or RC as well as a Radiola III and/or IIIA. I
might be able to scroung up some display tubes for them.
3. Any other early sets including home brews that are not more than 9''
deep.
4. For the 30's side, a balance of 30's wood and plastic but most would
have to fit the 9" ctriteria. Joe Bentrovato will help a lot here.
5. On the right side glass table we could use a couple of early
transistors (don't have) and a hybrid (which I have) as well as a couple
of midgets.
6. There is plenty of room for a couple of catalins and modernistic or
space age radio styles as the shelves are locked.
7. We could include a touch of early TV if we want.
The theme probably will be something like, "Radio Enters The Home, The
First Three Decades".
We must start setting up on Saturday morning at 10:00. The museum is
only open 1:00 to 4:00 on Sundays and we do not have to have the whole
thing done this week. We can have access to the museum at other times
subject only to notifying a local person.
If you want to bring some of the above items or anything else you think
would be appropriate on Saturday, we can start setting up and then
decide what more needs to be added. I will bring two or three consoles,
some early speakers, battery sets and misc. small items. Also we should
bring all the leftover signs and picture from Olde Towne and Morris
County. Marsha and Gerry will add other related radio ephemera and
books but feel free to consider what you have as well. I'll also
coordinate making any labels we need as the curator wants to tell a
story and make the display historical in nature as much as possible.
See you on Friday with many more details.
