Marty has a good point, chrome is difficult to solder but I would bet not
impossible.

I think the layering of plated materials has to do with adhesion to the
previous layer. Each metal (element) has a different expansion
characteristic and affinity. If you are having it done professionally,
then the plater should be familiar with what metal layers and thicknesses
are required.

If you are doing it yourself, find a copy of "The Platers Handbook". It
will tell you everything you need to know, including base metal cleaning,
formulas for plating solutions, current densities etc.

In reading Marty's post, I remembered the plating layers used on alumina
microwave circuit substrates which incidentally is just the reverse of
what he quoted. Alumina with evaporated chrome, plated copper, plated
nickel then plated gold, but I forget the thicknesses. Too much time has
gone by since I last used the platings baths!

So, what is the project?

Seasons Greetings from Arkansas,
Jim

Hi Steve,
You will not easily make connections to it. Forget soldering, maybe ok to
bolt eyelets to it.
Otherwise it shouldn't be a problem. Chrome is usually plated over nickel
and copper.
