Hi there. I just purchased my first AK breadboard (model 10C)
and I began looking for a nice display case for it. I found some options
ranging from plexi to acrylic to glass and was thinking that there might
be other breadboard owners that might be interested. I thought
if we got a bunch of people together we can get the price down?
I am also interested in any cases you have found/made.
Any interest? Below is what I've found...
1. I have gotten the name of a plexiglass manufacturer
that has made a custom cover for a gentlemen named
Dennis (don't know his last name) who has a 10C. The
cost was very low (I think $60). Dennis's case has the
dimensions of 12" deep x 10.5" tall x 31" long.
2. I have a quote from a company to make an acrylic
dust cover for those same dimensions. For the acrylic
cover alone (no base) the quoted price was $104.92.
Then there are a range of prices for different kinds
of bases ranging from $25 to $56. These bases are all
plastic. see

3. There is a very skilled craftsman who makes
beautiful glass cases (with wood bases and brass
corners) that I have opened discussions with. His
initial quote was too much for me ($500) but it was for much
more than I was looking for (two different hardwoods
for the base, a wood inlay (marketry?) etc. He did
indicate that we can work together to get a good
price. see
http://www.acaseplace.com/cases/cases_thumb.htm for
pictures.
My preference (if I can get the cost down) is to go
with the glass/wood/brass solution (See pictures, they
really are beautiful). Perhaps if we can get enough
people together and place one large order (presumably
for identical cases) we can drastically get the price
down?
Personally, I would be willing to spend $200 for a
case looking something like:
http://www.acaseplace.com/cases/case_16.htm but no
inlay, and perhaps a simpler bevel profile.
If any one is interested, I would be willing to
spearhead and coordinate an effort to get a bunch of
these made for us (or anyone) at hopefully a greatly
reduced price.
If you are interested, send me an email with the
amount you would be willing to spend on such a case
and how many you might want (perhaps you know some
friends) what model bread board you have. I'll tally
things up and go back to the craftsman and negotiate..
Let me know!
Eugene
PS I am not in any way affiliated with these companies,
just looking to help out fellow enthusiasts, I hope
this is not viewed as an ad!
